My Week in Review: 9/28/12

It was a very long week! Between grading sixty trend boards, kayaking on the river with friends, celebrating a friend’s birthday, and working on my business plan, I am tuckered out. Fortunately, I got to spend my Friday morning getting my hair done and I am planning to relax the rest of the day away if I can manage it.

One of the bright spots was the arrival of my Warby Parker Home Try-On! My fave style was the Linwood in Violet Magnolia on the far left. I loved the high-contrast tortoise shell look and they were the perfect rectangular shape for my face.  They are a wonderful company that built their business on the Buy One, Give One model that was popularized by TOMS.

I couldn’t help but pick up this Betsey Johnson Skull Fruit Girl necklace at Piperlime this week. Not only is it perfect for the upcoming Halloween season, but it’s a fun collectible. Plus, it was on sale!

I also picked up tickets to see the Silversun Pickups and Of Monsters and Men on back to back nights in November! If you are in Richmond, you should check out The National – its a smaller venue but I have seen some of the best shows there.

What better way to distract myself from work than by applying coat after coat of glittery nail polish? The first coat went on pretty clear and the glitter was fairly sparse but by the third coat my nails began to resemble disco balls.  They make me smile each time they catch the light! In case you’re wondering, its Nicole by OPI in Rainbow in the S-Kylie.

I love how a small snapshot can make your home look cozy and well designed! Notice how Eddie has chosen a pillow and throw to snuggle with that just happens to coordinate with his pink tummy. Coincidence? I think not!

Shopping: Golden Camel & Cobalt Blue

Just ordered a new J.Crew sweater in a lovely shade of camel and naturally started to think about the jewelry and accessories! I instantly thought of a vintage J.Crew necklace that I think will go perfectly but I couldn’t resist mocking up an inspiration board.

BTW, I just saw the word Camelot online and realized that would have made a way cooler blog title – Came-lot or Camel Lot?

Tickled Aqua

God, I love statement jewelry! I was up late working last night and had to get up early to finish grading some trend boards on campus so I opted for a comfy black ensemble with pants and a tunic. It was billowy and easy but also very underwhelming. Fortunately, my vintage J.Crew necklace (click here to see a similar version from J.Crew) was calling my name this morning and saved the day! Colorful and cheery, it never fails to get me a few compliments throughout the day.

Never Stop Dreaming

I am dreaming of lots of things at the moment…I am dreaming about the end of this semester as I finish grading my students’ trend board projects…I am dreaming up logos and concepts for my e-commerce venture, which I am hoping to launch by the end of October…I am dreaming about running and setting a new PR at the Richmond Half-Marathon later this year…I am dreaming of one day having a perfectly clean house, which is unlikely to ever happen with my dog’s penchant for shedding…

My Week in Review: 9/21

I love posts from other bloggers that sum up their week in photos. Maybe I am just lazy but I prefer the visual summary over a long and drawn out written post about everything little thing they did. Some of my favorite versions  of this are Five Things by Cupcakes & Cashmere and Bits of My Week by Made by Girl.

Doggy Halloween Pajamas

Look who’s ready for Halloween? Eddie is not a huge fan of his pajamas at the moment but doesn’t he look adorable?? Well, except for the grass in his teeth…damn dog!

Trend Board

One of the many, many trend boards I have graded this week…and, I have more to go tomorrow morning! Even though it’s been a lot of work, I am really enjoying teaching and have been lucky to have been assigned to freshman fashion students. They are so eager and excited to be learning about the industry!

Martha Stewart crafts

I love how the way this image looks like I shot real product. This image was actually on packaging for a craft project at Michaels by none other than Martha Stewart. God, I love that woman!

Pumpkin Spice Latte

One of many Pumpkin Spice Lattes that I plan to consume this Fall! And, if someone shows up with donuts even better!

Sunshine

Me and Eddie enjoying some of the last moments of summer because who knows how long it will last!

Large and In Charge

I was obviously groovin’ a retro look today! After enduring several shipping delays, my Stella & Dot necklace FINALLY arrived and I waited exactly 18 hours to wear it out.  The Leona Pendant Necklace was fairly pricey at $98 but I’ve had my eye on it for a long time and I decided to splurge on it. I love the weight of the chain with the massive stone…large and in charge, indeed!

September Resolutions

I realize its not quite Fall and most of the country, particularly the South, is still hot and humid but I can’t help it! As soon as September hits, I start thinking about sweaters, pumpkin spice lattes, and visiting the local apple orchard. And, I am feeling it even more this year because I started teaching in the fashion department at VCU! Because I am doing this in addition to my merchandising and e-commerce consulting work, its going to be a very busy semester and I don’t want all of the work to keep me from enjoying my favorite seasonal activities.

To that end, I created my first resolution list for the month of September:

  1. Take advantage of the Pumpkin Spice lattes and Autumnal beers while they are available!
  2. Finish going through all of the HUGE fashion magazines sitting on my coffee table.
  3. Stock up at the end of summer sales!
  4. Dig out all of my favorite fall decor items from the attic earlier in the season this year.
  5. Make plans to get home to see my family – its been way too long!
  6. Get back on my half-marathon training schedule! The Richmond Half will be here again before I know it.
  7. Visit the Home & Gift Show in Atlanta later in the month – looking forward to seeing my friend Katie while I am in town!
  8. Start looking extra early for the perfect Halloween costumes for my husband and I to run in at the Wicked 10K.
  9. Shop my local farmer’s market until it officially closes for the season.
  10. Buy pumpkins, pumpkins, and more pumpkins to enjoy as long as I can!

I will let you know how I did later in the month!
